Benefits of the VoloDrone drone from Volocopter and DB Schenker

Volocopter and DB Schenker have joined forces to develop drones. They unveiled the VoloDrone, which is designed for automated cargo transportation. It can carry packages weighing up to 200 kg.
It should be noted that the VoloDrone was not a discovery. Its design was developed 10 years ago, and in 2011 released a prototype. In 2019, the drone made its first flight, after which it was tested at various airports in Germany. The other day, however, it was officially presented to the general public, including federal agencies.
Volocopter and DB Schenker have been cooperating on environmental transportation for a long time. The result of their partnership is a drone that has a height of 2.15 meters and a diameter of 9.2 meters. Its mass is 600 kg, and the drone can carry a load of 200 kg over a distance of about 40 km. And the device is designed for autonomous flight even outside the line of sight, it runs on electric batteries. The drone is designed for vertical takeoff and landing.
The developers position the VoloDrone as an ideal device for cargo transportation in hard-to-reach areas, such as natural disasters or mountainous regions. However, the drop is also suitable as a delivery vehicle within the city.

The logistics sector is one of the most harmful to the environment. Every day millions of trucks emit tons of harmful substances into the air, which have a negative impact on the health of living organisms. Therefore, one of the urgent tasks is to introduce environmentally friendly transport that will be as efficient as trucks with internal combustion engines.
The use of drones is an excellent alternative that will optimize the logistics chain and speed up delivery. The VoloDrone can perform tasks for customers from different industries, be it agriculture, industry, construction. To develop the aircraft, Volocopter and DB Schenker combined extensive experience and modern innovations. The drone was tested for a long time, which allowed excluding any errors during its full use. It is safe to say that the VoloDrone is ready to perform logistical tasks of any complexity.
Volocopter is already known for developing electric multicopter helicopters. They have a lightweight design, which does not have the usual mechanical elements, such as a tail rotor or rudder. In this case, the movement, climbing or descending turns are performed by changing the engine speed. The helicopter is controlled by a joystick, an additional engine is installed at the end of the fuselage.
