Scania Super 11: an improved 11-litre engine

Scania Super 11

Overview of the Scania Super 11’s features

The Swedish truck manufacturer Scania has unveiled its new generation engine: the Scania Super 11. It provides even more power for commercial transport.

Despite growing interest in environmentally friendly transportation, Scania continues to focus on improving traditional internal combustion engines. Scania continues to develop technologies that offer customers the most efficient solutions possible. The new Super 11 is a prime example of this approach. It combines high performance, fuel efficiency, and reliability, making it one of the best offerings on the market.

Scania positions the new engine as one of the most economical in its class. The following characteristics confirm this:

  • it has an 11-liter displacement;
  • the engine uses 7% less fuel than the previous generation of 9-liter engines;
  • its weight is 85 kg less than the 13-liter Super.

Its relatively low weight allows for an increased payload without a loss of power. This is especially important when transporting heavy loads, when every kilogram counts.

Customers can order the new engine in three configurations:

  • a 350-hp version that complies with Euro 4 standards;
  • a 390 hp version with Euro 5 emissions;
  • a 430 hp version that meets Euro 6 requirements.

The Super 11 is based on the reliable 13-liter Super engine. This engine has proven to be reliable and productive in a variety of operating conditions. The new engine inherits the key advantages of its predecessor: durability, ease of maintenance, and high performance.

Scania has made significant improvements, particularly with regard to fuel economy. Additionally, the maintenance interval has been increased by 30% compared to the 9-liter counterpart. This reduces downtime and lowers overall operating costs. However, the manufacturer emphasizes that using Scania LDF-5 engine oil is necessary to achieve maximum efficiency.

Advantages of the development

Although the new product is similar to the 13-liter version in terms of its technical aspects, it has undergone some significant improvements. The development includes modern systems that increase operational efficiency and comfort:

  1. Cam Phaser is an intelligent gas distribution technology. The system provides flexible temperature control.
  2. Turbo Dosing is a precise AdBlue dosing technology that significantly reduces emissions.
  3. The Variable Valve Brake improves gear-shifting convenience. It also improves braking.

The engine also has balance shafts. When combined with improved software, they reduce vibration while driving. This makes the vehicle smoother and more comfortable for the driver.
