The Girteka fleet will include new electric trucks from Scania
Girteka, a Lithuanian company, has signed an agreement with truck manufacturer Scania for the supply of new vehicle models. According to the agreement, the operator will receive electric trucks from the Swedish concern within 4 years, and it is planned to supply 600 vehicles in total.
Moreover, the companies intend to jointly develop infrastructure for electric transport, as well as develop new solutions for charging trucks. According to Girteka, the operator seeks to reduce emissions with the help of the Swedish partner, while remaining competitive in the market.
The Lithuanian company wants to become one of the top ten logistics operators in Europe, and for this purpose, Girteka is investing in sustainable development. An excellent assistant for achieving the goal is Scania, whose products are of high quality. In addition, the truck manufacturer is actively developing in the direction of safe transport, regularly improving the efficiency of its products.
With the new electric trucks, Scania aims to diversify its fleet and offer customers a variety of service options. The customer can now choose a more economical solution or go green and contribute to the environment. In addition to electric trucks, Girteka and Scania also intend to cooperate in the supply of internal combustion engine vehicles. It is expected that the Lithuanian operator will receive models with a new generation transmission, thanks to which the vehicle consumes 8% less fuel than previous truck lines.
It should be noted that the cooperation between the companies has a global scale, as we are talking about the order of 600 trucks at once. This is the largest partnership in the field of cargo transportation so far. For example, a similar agreement was signed earlier between Dachser and Daimler Benz, but in this case, the number of electric vehicles was only 50. In 2022, the express delivery company DHL ordered 40 CO2-neutral trucks from Volvo.
It should be noted that the climate strategy requires a significant reduction in harmful emissions, and one of the main sources is the transportation sector. As a result, many operators and major retailers are adding electric vehicles to their fleets. The Coca-Cola Corporation has done so, using electric trucks to deliver its products in Europe and other regions. IKEA has also joined the initiative, signing an agreement with Volvo to supply vehicles. Electric vehicles are already involved in transport between the company’s two furniture factories, and the number will increase over time.
Operator DB Schenker has signed agreements with two manufacturers to supply electric semi-trailers. According to the agreement, the logistics company will receive 2,000 electric semi-trailers. The equipment will be used to transport a variety of goods over short distances.
