Planzer Transport, a transportation company from Switzerland, has decided to renew its fleet of vehicles. The operator follows the strategy of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, so it increases the number of environmentally friendly vehicles. Now autonomous vans will be delivered in Switzerland.
The company has ordered five new electric trucks that are designed without cabs. They should be ready by summer, and will be used for Planzer’s domestic needs. The vans are designed to travel on public roads, including city streets.
The company plans that these vehicles will replace traditional trucks, which are designed for deliveries on long routes. And shipment and loading of goods will be carried out automatically, which provides a courier department of the company.
For Planzer it is not the first electric cars in the fleet, eco-friendly trucks are already used for various transportation needs. However, the new series of vans is unique in its design and has excellent technical characteristics. The manufacturer of vehicles is the Udelv company from the U.S., which owns the development of the original packaged vehicles. These vehicles drive to customers’ addresses and deliver parcels to them.

The vans, which are made to order by Planzer, have an all-electric drive, the vehicle is controlled by an autopilot. Provision is also made for operator control. This option is possible in an emergency situation, and then the computer switches to a person who takes control of the truck, while in the office.
The Udelv has been on the market for more than a year and is engaged in solutions for the logistics sector. These are primarily vehicles designed for linear trucking, such as from the warehouse to the point of delivery, as well as for last-mile deliveries. According to the electric truck manufacturer’s global goal, it wants to produce more than 35,000 vehicles by 2028.
European logistics companies are actively using electric vehicles for their operations. For example, the Feldschlösschen brewery from Switzerland bought twenty battery-powered vehicles from Renault. These vans are used to deliver products.
The Renault Trucks D Wide Z.E. range has a payload of 26 tons, and they are actively used by the brewery. The new trucks have transported more than 9,3 thousand tons of products, the total distance covered is more than 66 thousand kilometers.
Feldschlösschen is considered one of the largest breweries in the country, and purchase of 20 trucks of new generation is an important step towards climate improvement. The new vans reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 240 tons per year compared to the use of diesel-powered vehicles.
