DAF trucks will be equipped with innovative systems for increased visibility
The Dutch manufacturer DAF has announced new products that will be presented at the IAA exhibition in Hanover. It is expected that the company will release vehicles of the XD range, which will have a number of innovative solutions. The new generation of DAF trucks will feature better aerodynamic characteristics, as well as an improved platform. In the future, the latter will be used for the manufacturer’s models, designed for long-haul XF and XG. In addition, new trucks will be equipped with a Paccar MX-11 engine with an improved drive train.
Externally, the XD lineup can be distinguished by the larger windshield and side windows. For the new trucks, the cabs were placed lower than other vehicles. This solution improves visibility for drivers, and in combination with the equipment of the lower door glass reduces the area of blind spots, which can lead to accidents.
The volume of the cab is 10 cubic meters, here there are screens, through which the process of control of the main systems of the truck takes place. The manufacturer pays special attention to increasing the level of visibility, and for this purpose, the truck is equipped with innovative systems – DAF’s own development. The first of them is Corner View, which is an effective analog of the front camera mirror and curb mirror. The system is located on the pillar on the passenger side and serves to increase visibility. Thanks to it, the car, despite its size, has good maneuverability in tight spaces. In addition, Corner View increases driving safety and reduces the likelihood of a collision when a person or animal may appear right in front of the hood of the car.
The XD lineup will be a great addition to the CF range. Production of the new vehicles is scheduled for the end of this year.
Not so long ago, the company introduced an updated version of the DAF Night Lock system. According to the manufacturer, this version of the locking system will be used for XF, XG, as well as XG+ range vehicles. The system is located in the door panel, a mechanical lock in this case serves as an entrance panel, which is reinforced by a heavy door construction. For this purpose, the trucks are equipped with special brackets during production. DAF Night Lock has undergone numerous tests, which have shown that its effectiveness is 150% higher than that of similar systems on the market.
The latch lock has a steel panel, which blends in with the color of the cab and blends harmoniously with the interior. The system is also equipped with a lever switch. When you activate the lock, the panel goes to the entrance bracket, so the doors are closed. At the same time, it is impossible to open them and get inside, even with a crowbar. The activation of the system is indicated by a red indicator light.
