Washington will allocate funds for charging stations

The U.S. government plans to invest in the creation of charging stations. According to a report from the White House, 500 thousand new facilities will appear in the country by 2030, for which 7.5 billion dollars will be allocated. Such an initiative is part of an ambitious electrification strategy.
The appearance of new charging stations in different parts of the USA is supposed to popularize electric transport and increase the volume of purchases of “green” cars, besides, this direction will allow the creation of a lot of working places and will give growth to the economy.
Five billion dollars have already been allocated for the program, and the rest of the money will be sent to the states in installments over several years. To receive the investment, each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, should send a corresponding application, describing in detail how the money will be distributed and the terms of installation of charging stations. And the government initiative is designed not only for cities but also for rural areas. Its goal is to ensure access of the country’s citizens to chargers, regardless of the region and remoteness of the settlement from megacities.

The project also plans to allocate $2.5 billion to popularize the purchase of electric cars. It is not yet known what exactly this money will be used for, most likely it will be various incentives for consumers.
Today, there are about 100 thousand charging stations in the U.S., which is a small number for a huge country. The government’s interest in the electric transport sector stems from the intention to minimize carbon dioxide emissions in a short period of time. To this end, Joe Biden signed a decree according to which 50% of the total sales of cars in the U.S. should account for models with zero emissions. This target must be reached by 2030. In addition, the fleet of vehicles assigned to the government will be fully electrified, and it has 645,000 vehicles. This number includes 245,000 civilian vehicles, 173,000 military vehicles, and 225,000 vehicles used by the postal service. At that, the White House does not indicate in what terms the electrification of the car fleet must be held and how much it will cost the taxpayers. According to experts, this process will take quite a long time and requires large investments. However, if you consider the program from a long-term perspective, in the future the state will be able to save significantly on fuel and maintenance.
It should be noted that Biden’s election campaign was also built on the implementation of an environmental strategy, which now the U.S. president is systematically implementing. He actively invests in green projects and encourages local companies to do the same.
