Maersk warehouse in Deneen to enhance logistics capabilities

Maersk has opened its first warehouse in France, strengthening the global operator’s position in the region. The logistics centre covers 75,000 square metres and is located in Denene.

The company’s warehouse is part of the GLP Park Denain hub, which has a total area of 100,000 square metres. The facility is in the Hauts-de-France region, a popular location for many operators. The logistics infrastructure is well-developed. Twelve motorways lead to the warehouse, and there is a rail link. Moreover, ships can transport goods on the Grand Canal. Park Denain is close to the A2 and A21 motorways and is only 200 km from Paris and 100 km from Brussels.

Project features and outlook

Maersk has created a modern warehouse to meet customer needs in a wide range of sectors. Site features:

  • BREEAM Very Good certification;
  • beam heights of over 11 metres, making it easy to handle large vehicles;
  • 85 loading and unloading doors;
  • floor load capacity of 5 tonnes per square metre;
  • different routes for heavy and light vehicles to optimise operations;
  • the availability of an automated docking system.

The opening of the new warehouse will give Maersk the opportunity to expand its distribution services. It will also provide additional routes across Europe, covering 15 new countries.

GLP’s collaboration with Maersk also benefits its French division, which operates a hub in Hauts-de-France. This logistics park represents almost 30% of the company’s total portfolio in the country. For Maersk, GLP has developed several customised solutions that have improved the efficiency of logistics processes and attracted new customers.

Other Maersk projects

Maersk is expanding its presence in European ports through its cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd. Under the Gemini project, the companies will use the London Gateway port for operations on the Asia-Europe route. The facility will become the main logistics hub in the UK, replacing Felixstowe.

In selecting the port, the partners looked at the following characteristics:

  • terminal reliability;
  • the possibility of offering a wide range of cargoes;
  • speed of operations;
  • the ability to optimise processes to improve efficiency.

The new project started in February 2025. It has reduced the number of port calls and improved the operational cycle.

Although the port’s main focus is the Asia-Europe route, it continues to serve other destinations, including routes from Europe to the Middle East. Felixstowe is no longer part of the Gemini structure.
