Chinese port of Yangpu increases the number of customers

The Chinese deep-sea port of Yangpu, which is located on Hainan Island, has published statistics on the number of customers. According to the data, for the year their number increased by 264 companies. About 30% of them account for carriers dealing with international dry-cargo and container carriers. This jump came after the port announced the implementation of the state program of free trade development in Yangpu.
Last year more than 100 ships with a total tonnage of more than 6 million tons were registered in this zone. In total, the port’s cargo turnover exceeded the mark of 467 billion ton-kilometers. During the same period, the gross product amounted to approximately 1.1 billion dollars. Local authorities in Hainan have noted an increase in the influx of logistics companies that register in this economic zone. In addition, Yangpu is also expanding its interaction with other ports that are located in the eastern part of China.

According to the government’s Hainan Free Trade Zone program, the formation process includes five projects, the implementation of which is a unique development for the country. In addition, the authorities plan to introduce three pilot programs. The program will simplify regulations that apply to ships, such as simplifying their registration procedure. In addition, the possibility of refunding duties for export shipments by sea transport, which is produced in the territory of China, is assumed. Another innovation will be duty free refueling for vessels that trade both on the domestic and global markets. For them there will also be an operation on compensation of taxes already paid at the point of departure.
The port of Yangpu accounts for about 45% of the island’s foreign trade turnover, the share of 20% is foreign investment, which comes thanks to the favorable conditions that Hainan offers. This trade zone is of strategic importance to both the region and the Chinese transport segment as a whole.
The government has outlined ambitious plans for the island, according to which by 2035 Yangpu will become the main distribution center for cargo flow from different regions of China, as well as Europe, Asia and North America. The immediate goal is to turn the port into a key transportation hub in the region by 2025, which will be able to handle more than 5 million containers a year.
Last year’s figures show that Yangpu has played an important role in the development of the island. It was thanks to the port that Hainan provided more than 103 thousand duty-free fuel, which was used to refuel 160 large ships, local and foreign. In addition, about 190 thousand fishing schooners passed through Yangpu.
