Volvo FM Electric trucks will be used at DFDS

More and more large automobile companies are betting on electric vehicles. Indeed, the demand for such vehicles is actively growing, and the more affordable they become, the more people want to abandon internal combustion engine vehicles in favor of electric cars. The logistics industry is no exception, there is also a growing demand for this version of the trucks. A striking example is the range of Volvo FM Electric, which is extremely popular among carriers.
It became known that a large logistics company DFDS, which operates in Northern Europe, has acquired 100 trucks of this model from Volvo Corporation. To date, the deal is the largest in the segment of electric commercial vehicles.
Representatives of DFDS and Volvo said that their partnership was an important step towards popularization of electric vehicles. Both companies are committed to environmental principles and promote the abandonment of fossil fuels in favor of clean energy.
The deal demonstrates that electric trucks have great potential and are just as efficient as traditional trucks. The automaker hopes that the example of DFDS will inspire other members of the logistics industry to consider renewing their fleets in favor of environmentally friendly vehicles.

The first trucks from the ordered batch will ship to the operator in the fall of 2022, and deliveries will take place regularly throughout 2023. DFDS plans to use Volvo FM Electric for transportation within Europe, both for short- and long-haul routes. This range has a weight of 44 tons and can cover a distance of 300 km without recharging. Charging of cars is carried out by two types – by night, with alternating current, and direct current, which is characterized by greater power.
The operator explains its decision to switch to electric vehicles by its contribution to the global reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and implementation of sustainable development principles.
It should be noted that European companies are demonstrating excellent results of electrification. In 2021, more than 200 commercial electric vehicles appeared in the region, with a payload of more than 16 tons. About 40% of them were produced at Volvo Trucks plants. They say these figures are an excellent example of how Europe is following an environmental strategy and trying to change its approach to reduce harm to the environment. Volvo Trucks has set the goal of increasing the share of electric vehicles in its supply chain to 50 percent by 2030.
It should be noted that the corporation began mass production of electric trucks in 2019, and since that time it has taken the leading position in this segment. Now the company offers six model lines of this type of transport.
