Girteka increases intermodal capacity and rail transport
Transport company Girteka is expanding its activities in the European market. The Lithuanian transporter decided to focus on building intermodal capacity, including the railroad. Thanks to this, the number of rail transports has grown considerably.
Girteka has a leading position on the European logistics market. Last year the company managed to double the number of semi-trailers transported via its own intermodal rail network. In the current period Girteka has already exceeded 2020, according to preliminary statistics, the carrier will be able to double its result.
In 2021 intermodal transportation accounts for a share of 5% of total kilometers. Due to the increased use of intermodal cargo transportation, it was possible to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 8 tons. This fact is relevant in view of the active pursuit of the environmental strategy.
Girteka follows in its activities the principles of sustainable development, an important component of which is the use of intermodal transportation. At the moment, rail transport is considered the best solution to reduce emissions.
The EU government is striving to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality as quickly as possible. Widespread use of trucks powered by hydrogen fuel or electric engines would improve the situation considerably, but so far there is very little use of them in large-scale logical processes. That is why Girteka decided to reduce pollution by reducing transportation by traditional transport, and increasing the share of rail transport.
It should be noted that for a long time the company specialized exclusively in automobile transportation, however, understanding the market requirements and global trends, the operator decided to change its approach. Girteka’s intermodal services are in great demand among clients. One of the key advantages in this case is that the company owns all trucks and semi-trailers, so it can offer a complete solution at once. This allows you to control the entire transportation cycle, and in case of failures – to eliminate them promptly with minimal loss of time.
Girteka pays special attention to planning the route of all the nuances of the logistics process. Intermodal transportation involves several trucks and railroad, which means that it is necessary to think over the route of transport in advance to make it as convenient and short as possible. To this end, all participants in the logistics chain are synchronized and are in constant communication with Girteka specialists. The company, despite specializing in road transportation, was able in a short time to bring the service of intermodal transport to a new level, and become in demand among customers with different tasks and requirements. And the operator is not going to stop and continues to improve the service.
