Freight turnover of Shenzhen port and other terminals in China
In the last quarter of this year, the freight turnover of the port in the Chinese city of Shenzhen was about 60 million tons or 6.48 million TEUs. Of these, more than 47 million tons were for foreign trade products.
During the pandemic outbreak, the port had to change a number of processes to ensure the necessary conditions to protect against the disease. Thanks to the timely implementation of preventive measures, the port was able to ensure uninterrupted operation. The company has launched a new route that allows it to provide service to Hong Kong in a short time. In addition, cargo deliveries to North America and Europe are functioning perfectly. Port management has been able to improve processes to ensure production chains and global shipments of various categories of goods.
Other ports in China are also continuing to expand their routes. Yantian, for example, has added seven new routes that bring cargo to major terminals in different parts of the world. The routes include the eastern and western parts of the United States, Canada, and the European Union.
The leader in China in terms of international destinations is the port of Shekou. It offers customers 189 different shipping routes and serves as a transit center for shipments to southern China.
In the past quarter, China’s ports combined 2.36 billion tons of freight turnover. This figure is 2.7% higher than the results of the same quarter of the previous year. Container volumes reached 43.6 million TEUs, up 2.9% year over year.
Last month, ports in China handled 1.06 billion tons of various goods, and container turnover was at the level of 19.44 million TEU.
At the beginning of this year, container traffic in the port of Hong Kong fell by 8.6% and amounted to 2.34 million TEU. The largest terminal here is Kwai Qing, its traffic decreased by 9.6%, to nearly 2 million TEU. The remaining terminals in Hong Kong dropped by 3.5% to 380,000 TEU. The port is one of the largest in the world, its capacity is more than 456 thousand ships annually. Last year, container traffic volume was recorded at 17.8 million TEU.
China is actively investing in the development of maritime logistics. At the beginning of this year, the government increased investments in the water transport sector by 3.9%, the volume amounted to about 2.8 billion dollars. In general, the funds of the logistics segment received almost 12% more investments than last year. Now investments in this direction amount to more than 53 billion dollars.
