Volvo Trucks introduces a new system that monitors the blind spot
Swedish manufacturer Volvo Trucks has announced an innovative system that will be installed on its trucks. It will allow identifying other vehicles on the road that are in the blind spot of the vehicle.
According to representatives of Volvo Trucks, the new solution will make it possible to reduce the risk of accidents, even those that occur in a second. To develop the system the company’s specialists conducted a global study of the huge number of accidents, which occurred for various reasons. Thanks to this new solution, it is possible to eliminate even the smallest threats that could cause an accident.
The system is called Side Collision Avoidance Support, it performs the function of informing the driver of the probable collision. As soon as another car enters the blind spot, the indicator lights up red on the side mirror where the threat is observed. If the driver changes lanes at that moment, turning on the turn signal, a red light flashes, and a warning sound is emitted from the side concerned. Thus the driver receives the information about the possible threat and he can react in time – slow down and give way to another traffic participant.
The new system is another step toward the company’s main goal, which is to ensure maximum safety for drivers and reduce the number of accidents on the road.
The system will be installed on trucks of the FH, FM, and FMX model ranges. It is installed on diesel engines, as well as on gas and electric vehicles.
